Nathanael Johnson set out to write a piece outlining the ways to address the pains of California’s current drought. Instead, he found that many of the basic assumptions he held about this drought and California’s water use in general ran counter to the reality of the situation. So he changed the piece to clarify where conventional wisdom has diverged from the truth of the matter.
