Emission of carbon dioxide and particulate matter by coal-fired electrical generating plants is a major cause of global warming. This polluting source can and should be replaced by safe, economical energy derived from liquid fluoride thorium reactors (LFTR), molten salt rectors. Get information on them from Robert Hargraves, “THORIUM: energy cheaper than coal” (2012) and Richard Martin, “Superfuel: Thorium, the Green Energy Source for the future” (2012).
A bill introduced in the Senate by Roy Blunt (R. Mo.) and Joe Manchin (D. W.VA), The National Rare Earth Cooperative Act S.R 2006 will give thorium a chance to become an operating energy source in the future. People should ask their senators to support this legislation. This is a non-partisan matter, introduced by a Republican and a Democrat. It merits the support of conservatives and liberals alike by producing jobs in factories manufacturing thorium reactors in modular units. Best of all, these units will not only replace fossil fuel in electrical generating plants, they will safely supply an abundance of cheap electricity for heating homes and commercial buildings, powering factories and driving trains, buses, and cars.
