With six ABET-accredited programs, Duy Tan University ranks among the two universities in Vietnam with the highest number of programs accredited by ABET.
ABET accreditation has long been recognized as the global gold standard for quality assurance in engineering and technology education. As the world’s leading accrediting body in these fields, ABET accredits academic programs at renowned universities, including MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of California, Berkeley, Johns Hopkins University, and Purdue University. Notably, achieving the maximum six-year ABET accreditation requires an academic program to meet every accreditation criterion without exception. With six ABET-accredited programs, Duy Tan University now ranks among the two universities in Vietnam with the highest number of programs recognized by ABET.
Duy Tan University’s Software Engineering Program Earns ABET Accreditation
Duy Tan University’s ABET accreditation journey began in 2019 with the accreditation of its Network Engineering and Management Information Systems programs. This milestone was followed by the Electrical and Electronics Engineering program in 2020 and the Software Engineering program in 2021. The latest milestone came on August 28, 2025, when the Construction Engineering Technology and Food Technology programs were awarded ABET accreditation for the maximum six-year term, based on the results of ABET’s on-site evaluation in December 2024.
A particularly noteworthy achievement is that Duy Tan University’s academic programs have been accredited by three of ABET’s four accreditation commissions—the highest number achieved by any university in Vietnam. These include the Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC), the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC), and the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission (ETAC). This broad recognition reflects the University’s consistently high academic quality across diverse disciplines and its strong commitment to international standards in engineering, computing, and technology education.

This achievement is built on a strong educational foundation developed in accordance with the CDIO (Conceive – Design – Implement – Operate) framework. ABET has highly recognized Duy Tan University’s project-based engineering education approach, which is aligned with CDIO principles and equips students with the fundamental engineering knowledge and practical skills to conceive, design, implement, and operate solutions to real-world challenges.
In addition, many of the University’s academic programs have been developed through academic partnerships and curriculum transfer agreements with leading U.S. institutions, including Purdue University, California State University, and California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly). These collaborations enabled Duy Tan University to introduce the first Advanced Programs in Central Vietnam, providing students with access to internationally benchmarked curricula and educational practices.

The impact of Duy Tan University’s ABET-accredited education is clearly reflected in the outstanding achievements of its students on the international stage. Electrical and Electronics Engineering students won First Prize at the ASEAN Green Entrepreneurship Hackathon 2024 with their innovative powered prosthetic leg, FLEXILEG. Meanwhile, students from the Architecture and Construction disciplines claimed the championship title at the 2023 IDEERS (Introducing and Demonstrating Earthquake Engineering Research in Schools) Competition, the Asia-Pacific earthquake-resistant structural design competition, outperforming teams from leading universities such as Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST).
With six ABET-accredited programs, Duy Tan University offers its students significant advantages, including qualifications that are widely recognized in the global job market, expanded career opportunities with multinational corporations, and a stronger competitive edge when pursuing employment or further study abroad. More importantly, this achievement sends a strong message that engineering and technology education in Vietnam is fully capable of meeting the world’s most rigorous quality standards.
Founded in 1994, Duy Tan University is the first and largest private university in Central Vietnam. Located in Da Nang City, Duy Tan University is multidisciplinary and diversified institution, with core strengths in Information Technology, Health Sciences, Tourism, and Engineering. Committed to internationalization, Duy Tan University has established academic partnerships with leading American universities such as Carnegie Mellon University and Purdue University. Duy Tan University is also consistently ranked among Asia’s leading universities and has earned prestigious international accreditations, including ABET and UN Tourism TedQual.
