“When high birth rates decline and youthful age structures become more mature, many developing countries have a window of opportunity for accelerated development that can result in improvements in education, health, and rapid economic growth. However, while fertility rates around the world have fallen drastically over the last century, they remain high in many African countries, with very slow declines in some and completely stalled levels in others. A recent analysis of UN population data suggests that Africa’s population could rise above four billion by the end of the century.”
