Global Ocean Refuge System

The Marine Conservation Institute is pushing to establish strong protection for at least 20% of every marine habitat in each ocean bioregion by 2030. The Global Ocean Refuge System (GLORES, pronounced “glôr-ees”) is a strategic, science-based way to safeguard marine ecosystems and enable marine life to recover.

Questions arise of how these refuges would be enforced? Will they be successful in the face of increasing human pressures?
