Fee and Dividend NM
Public Node Active 8 years, 7 months ago
We are a grassroots residents’ group protecting our community from oil and gas industry 1350 new leases in Sandoval County in the upper Albuquerque Basin, which gives the industry with a foothold into the Rio Grande Valley. Our group is proposing a carbon neutral impact fee on source emissions with a 100% dividend back to households with incomes under $75,000 a year. Currently, with the drop of oil prices in an extraction state the budget deficits are down to 30%, layoffs in the gas, oil, and coal have impacted the areas economy and representatives are scrambling for solutions to new revenue streams. The San Juan Basin has the highest carbon emissions in the lower 48 states, the federal and state government has left the public welfare to voluntary reporting by industry on emission. Unless we address this issue the emissions will not come down.
