The Institute for Green Science (IGS), led by Terry Collins, the Teresa Heinz Professor of GreenChemistry, is a research, education and entrepreneurial development center in which a holistic approach to green or sustainability science is being developed. The technical research programs are centered on the design, mechanisms of action and applications of TAML® Activators. At <1% the mass of mimics of the oxidizing enzymes they faithfully mimic, TAMLs are the highest performing homogeneous oxidation catalysts known across both chemistry and biology. The process of developing chemicals that are not endocrine disruptors has been invented by collaborative work between environmental health scientists and green chemists where TAMLs have served as the beta-testing system. TAMLs provide remarkably effective processes for removing endocrine disrupting micropollutants from water. The Institute is dedicated to the intellectual growth and technical education of a new generation of ethically aware professionals who understand how to develop and practicescience that works for the pursuit of sustainability — from the molecular level on up.
