A commencement address on rewriting the rules and reclaiming the idea of America

To be a young person entering the adult world today is to know two things for sure: the world feels like it’s ending, and you are only just getting started.

A year ago this week, Anand returned to his high school (Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.) to deliver the commencement address. The vision laid out here — claim the idea of a better America, rewrite the rules to make it happen, learn the craft of making change, and never be afraid to celebrate progress — remains the same (and it continues to guide us as adults). So the speech bears repeating, and we’re reposting it for this year’s graduates, and for those who’ve seen them through.
