The prehistoric division of labor specialized men for exercising power externally and women towards operating with love towards all living beings. The uncontrolled use of power by some men (as greed, domination, exploitation and warfare) is the most dangerous force in the world today. The path to sustainability for us and our planet may be shorter if we train ourselves to balance the capacities and inclinations toward love and power in both men and women, so that women will shoulder their share of power in managing both nature and human societies, and men will develop their capacities and inclinations for love. This training involves bringing all innate emotions, according to Tomkins Affect Theory, into full consciousness and understanding them as motivators in the emotional dynamics of both love and power, in order to manage them intelligently. Our initial efforts have focused on using empathic exercises in pairs to enhance emotional awareness and deepen intimacy between the sexes.
